Hi, Sobat!

Article (kata sandang) sangat sulit untuk dipelajari karena ada banyak tata aturan, pengecualian, dan kasus-kasus tertentu dalam penggunaannya. Namun, mungkin untuk mempelajari beberapa tata aturan yang akan membantumu menggunakan article dalam bahasa Inggris dengan benar.

Noun (kata benda) dalam bahasa Inggris dapat berupa countable (terhitung) atau uncountable (tidak terhitung). Jika sebuah noun merupakan jenis countable, maka pasti dapat berbentuk singular (tunggal) atau plural (jamak). Selain jenis-jenis umum noun, terdapat dua jenis articles yaitu definite or specific (pasti/tertentu), seperti the dan indefinite or general (tidak pasti/umum), seprti a atau an. Anda dapat mengetahui dari table di atas bahwa jika sebuah noun (kata benda) berupa countable plural dan uncountable, kemungkinan dapat memperoleh article (kata sandang) baik definite article (the) atau tanpa article (nondefinite). Sementara itu, Anda harus memberikan sebuah artikel pada semua countable singular noun (jika Anda tidak memberikan determiner lainnya, seperti my atau each).

 

I have money. (uncountable – tidak memerlukan article) 

I have books. (countable plural – tidak memerlukan article)

I have a book. (countable singular _ memerlukan article)

 

Berikut ini informasi penting yang harus Anda ingat tentang article dengan singular noun (kata benda tunggal).

 

ARTICLES WITH SINGULAR NOUN

Sebuah singular noun harus memiliki sebuah article (kata sandang), seperti a, an, atau  the dan atau beberapa determiner lainnya, seperti my atau each. (Sebuah plural noun boleh memiliki sebuah article ataupun tidak)

EXERCISE 52

The following sentences contain different types of nouns. Underline only the countable singular noun. Analyze where articles (or determiners) have been omitted. Then indicate is the sentences are correct (C) or incorrect (I).

1.      She is taking trip with friends. (…..)

2.      In my yard there are flowers, trees, and grass. (…..)

3.      The manager sent memo to his employee. (…..)

4.      There is car in front of the building. (…..)

5.      The child and his friends are having milk and cookies. (…..)

6.      She is studying to be an actress in films. (…..)

7.      My neighbor was arrested for throwing rocks through windows. (…..)

8.      We have machinery that prints ten pages each minute. (…..)

KEY ANSWER
