Omission of Relative Pronouns
1.
WHO (orang) sebagai subjek dari “relative/adjective
clause”.
Rumus:
Subject + who + verb/be ...
+ verb/be + Object (Adverb/Adjective/Noun)
E.g: |
(a) The teacher is very kind. (b) He helped me. |
>> The
teacher who helped me is very kind. |

WHOM (people)
sebagai objek dari “relative/adjective
clause”.
Rumus:
Subject + whom + subject + verb/be ...
+ verb/be + Object (Adverb/Adjective/Noun)
E.g: |
(a) The student didn't answer. (b) I called her. |
>> The
student whom I called didn't answer. |

Subject + that + verb/be ...

WHICH (hewan
atau benda)

car which broke down is new. |

WHOSE (kepemilikanorang,
hewan, atau benda)
menujukan kepemilikan pada “relative/adjective clause”. (-nya)
Rumus:
Subject + whose + noun + verb/be ...
+ verb/be + Object (Adverb/Adjective/Noun)
E.g: |
(a) The man is my neighbor. (b) His car was stolen. |
>> The
man whose car was stolen is my neighbor. |
E.g: |
(a) The house needs repair. (b) Its roof was damaged. |
>> The
house whose roof was damaged needs repair. |
*Catatan:Defining Clause → Penting, tidak pakai koma.Contoh:Students who study hard will pass the exam.The phone that I lost was expensive.Non-Defining Clause → Tambahan, pakai koma.Contoh:My best friend, who lives in Jakarta, is coming tomorrow.Mount Everest, which is the highest mountain, is in Nepal."That" hanya untuk defining, sedangkan "which/who" bisa untuk keduanya.Relative pronoun bisa dihilangkan jika bukan subjek dalam defining clause.
