Hi, sobat!

Pada bagian sebelumnya membahas terkait bermacam permasalahan terkait adjective dan adverb. Pada pembahasan kali ini berkaitan dengan beberapa permasalahan yang berhubungan dengan adjective: 1) adjective yang berakhiran -ly, 2) predicate adjective, dan 3) adjective yang berakhiran -ed dan -ing.

Pada umumnya ketika sebuah kata berakhiran “-ly” dalam bahasa Inggris, maka kata tersebut merupakan adverb (kata keterangan). Namun, terdapat beberapa kata yang berakhiran “-ly” yang merupakan adjective (kata sifat), dan adjective yang berakhiran dengan “-ly” ini dapat menyebabkan kebingunan dalam mengerjakan soal written expression pada Tes TOEFL.

 

The manager turned in his weekly report.

 

Contoh kalimat di atas benar, tetapi kelihatan salah; seperti ada adverb yang berakhiran “-ly” di depan noun “report”. Sementara itu, kata “weekly” merupakan adjective yang mengdeskripsikan noun “report”.

Berikut ini daftar adjective yang berakhiran dengan “-ly” yang sering kali digunakan dalam bahasa Inggris.

Each of the following sentences has at least one adjective and adverb ending in -ly. Underline the adjective and italicize adverb. Bold the words they describe. Then indicate if the sentences are correct (C) or incorrect (I).

1. Federal taxes are yearly taxes which must be paid every April. (…..)

2. At the fashion show, the new seasonally fashions will be shown. (…..)

3. Do you want to go the early movie or to the lately movie? (…..)

4. She offered me some friendly advice about how to deal with the terribly problem. (…..)

5. The quarterly reports need to be turned in the next weekly meeting. (…..)

6. He did not have a manly reaction to the negatively comments. (…..)

7. The likely outcome of the purchase of the costly car is that he will not be able to pay his monthly bills. (…..)

8. The days she spent at the beach house were lonely and solitarily. (…..)

9. She takes her daily medication on a regularly schedule. (…..)

10. The kindly neighbor paid hourly visits to her unhealthily friend. (…..)

 

KEY ANSWER
