CHAPTER 5

RECOUNT TEXT: PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

(TEKS RECOUNT: PENGALAMAN PRIBADI)

Kompetensi Dasar :

3.11 membandingkan fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan  beberapa teks personal recount lisan dan tulis dengan memberi dan meminta informasi terkait pengalaman pribadi di waktu lampau, pendek dan sederhana, sesuai dengan konteks penggunaannya.

4.11.1 menangkap makna secara kontekstual terkait fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan teks recount lisan dan tulis, sangat pendek dan sederhana, terkait pengalaman pribadi di waktu lampau (personal recount).

4.11.2 menyusun teks recount lisan dan tulis, sangat pendek dan sederhana, terkait pengalaman pribadi di waktu lampau (personal recount), dengan memperhatikan fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan, secara benar dan sesuai konteks.

 

A.   Recount Text

1.   Pengertian Recount Text

Recount text (to recount: to tell a story) adalah jenis text dalam Bahasa Inggris yang menceritakan tentang suatu cerita, tindakan, atau kegiatan atau bagaimana suatu hal/kejadian itu terjadi. Biasanya, recount text menceritakan tentang pengalaman seseorang yang telah terjadi di masa lalu. Recount text umumnya tidak memiliki konflik yang signifikan, melainkan hanya mendeskripsikan runtutan atau rangkaian cerita yang terjadi.

 

2.   Fungsi Recount Text

Social function atau fungsi sosial dari recount text adalah:

a.    menceritakan sebuah cerita yang bersifat menghibur pembaca (to tell about the past events);

b.    menyajikan cerita (biografi) yang dapat memberikan inspirasi, motivasi, dan suri tauladan untuk ditiru pembaca tekait nilai-nilai moral, karakter atau kepribadian, dan prestasi dari seorang tokoh terkemuka, seperti ilmuan, pahlawan, politikus, dan lain-lain (to inspire, encourage, or motivate the readers to imitate or even internalise moral values, good deeds, or achievement of the public figure, such as scientist, hero, politicians, etc), atau;

c. menceritakan kembali atau mengingatkan pembaca terhadap peristiwa bersejarah (to retell and remind about the historical event).

 

3.   Struktur Umum Recount Text

Generic structure atau struktur umum dalam recount text adalah:

a.   Orientation (Pembukaan)

Orientation atau bagian pembuka pada recount text merupakan bagian teks yang mengenalkan latar belakang informasi tentang siapa (tokoh), dimana (tempat), kapan (waktu) kejadian atau peristiwa/kejadian terjadi secara sekilas.

b.   Series of Events/ Elaboration (Rangkaian Cerita)

Series of Events atau bagian rangkaian cerita merupakan bagian teks yang menceritakan serangkaian peristiwa atau alur yang terjadi pada cerita sesuai dengan urutan kronologis. Bagian ini dapat juga disebut Elaboration karena memuat penjelasan hal-hal atau peristiwa yang lebih rinci yang terjadi pada cerita.

c.    Re-orientation (Penutup)

Re-orientation atau bagian penutup merupakan bagian teks yang memuat penutup atau kesimpulan cerita. Pada recount text terkait pengalaman pribadi, bagian ini berisikan opini penulis (pesan dan kesan) terkait peristiwa yang dialaminya. Sedangkah pada recount text jenis biography (biografi) atau histoical event (peristiwa sejarah) memuat akhir dari cerita tersebut. Re-orientation ini bersifat opsional, yaitu boleh disertakan dalam teks atau tidak.

 

4.   Ciri-Ciri Kebahasaan Reccount Text

Language feature atau unsur-unsur kebahasaan yang terkandung dalam recount text adalah:

§  Menggunakan pola waktu atau tense, yaitu Past Tense (Masa Lampau), seperti a) Simple Past: be (was, were) atau Verb-2, b) Past Continuous: be (was, were) Verb-ing, 3) Past Perfect: had Verb-3, dan 4) Past Perfect Continuous: had been Verb-ing;

§  Menggunakan Past Modals, seperti can – could, will – would, may – might, have to – had to, shall – should, dan lain-lain;

§  Menggunakan adverb (kata keterangan) dan adverbial phrase (frasa adverbial) untuk mengungkapkan atau memberikan keterangan waktu, tempat dan cara peristiwa/ kejadian itu terjadi. Misalnya: last September, Pari Island, on the second day, in 1987, dan lain sebagainya;

§  Menggunakan conjunction (kata hubung), terutama time connectives (kata hubung waktu). Kata hubung ini berfungsi untuk menyusun atau menghubungkan kalimat antar kalimat atau bahkan paragraf antar paragraf secara urut (kronologis) sehingga rangkaian peristiwa atau kejadian dapat diceritakan dengan baik. Contoh conjunction (kata hubung), yaitu and, before, then, after that, while, therefore, furthermore, dan lain sebagainya.

§  Recount text, seperti jenis historical atau factual recount text, umumnya memuat fakta-fakta bersejarah. Sedangkan, personal dan imajinative recount text cenderung pada pengalaman dan cerita imajinasi atau khayalan.

 

5.   Macam-Macam Recount Text

Berdasarkan isin ceritanya, recount text dapat dibedakan menjadi beberapa jenis yaitu antara lain:

a.    Personal Recount Text

Personal recount text merupakan recount text yang menceritakan pengalaman pribadi si penulis seperti pengalaman liburan, pengalaman di sekolah atau bahkan pengalaman tak terlupakan. Contoh personal recount text, yaitu recount text tentang My Holiday in Hawaii.

b.    Imaginative Recount Text

Imaginative recount text merupakan recount text yang menceritakan imajinasi penulis tentang suatu hal. Contoh imaginative recount text, yaitu recount text tentang spiderman.

c.    Factual Recount Text

Factual recount text merupakan recount text yang membahas tentang suatu hal yang benar-benar terjadi (fakta) di masa lampau. Selain itu, biography (biografi) dari tokoh publik juga dapat dikategorikan ke dalam factual recount text. Contoh factual recount, yaitu recount text tentang titanic.

d.    Historical Recount Text

Historical recount text merupakan recount text yang membahas tentang sejarah baik itu tempat bersejarah maupun benda bersejarah. Contoh historical recount text, yaitu recount text tentang Borobudur Temple.

 

6.   Contoh Recount Text

Berikut ini beberapa contoh contoh recount text berdasarkan isi ceritanya, yaitu:

a.   Recount Text 1 “My First Time In Yogyakarta”

 

My First Time In Yogyakarta        My family and I went to my grandmother’s house in Yogyakarta last month. It was my first trip to this city. We went there two days after my sister’s graduation ceremony in Semarang. We arrived at Yogyakarta at night. We spent a week staying in my grandmother’s house which is 5 minutes away on foot to Malioboro street.

Orientation

In the first morning, we were still too tired after a long trip from Semarang to Yogyakarta. So we decided to stay at home to recharge our energy. I walk around the neighborhood with my sister just to experience how it is like to be in Yogyakarta. There were too many houses, I think, which made the space between a house and the other was so small, even the road was also small that only bicycles and motorcycles can go through.      On the second day, all of us went to Malioboro street. We saw so many merchants with various products which they claim to be a traditional product of Yogyakarta. I bought some wooden figurine and a T-shirt with the word “Yogyakarta” printed on it, while my sister bought some leather handbag. My mom and dad were busy choosing some merchandise to be brought home when we go back.      On the third day, we went to Taman Sari and Keraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat to see some historical buildings in Yogyakarta. We took a lot of pictures there. We also took some pictures of the building so we can check it again at home. We found some place providing Yogya traditional food around the building and we jumped in right away.      We spent the rest of our week in Yogyakarta by visiting some Shopping Malls such as Jogja City Mall, Malioboro Mall, Hartono Mall, and Ambarrukmo Plaza. b.   Recount Text 1 “Traveling Abroad”

Traveling Abroad        My first overseas trip was when I went to Thailand with my father. At that moment I was still in Junior High School level and it was a school day off. My father took this trip because he needed data for his research about the legendary bird “Garuda”, which turned out to be a legend too in Thailand. We spent only 1 day in Thailand, but I already experience a lot of new things.	Orientation
When we first landed at the Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok, we got a taxi and asked the driver to take us to the nearest hotel. He drove us to Windsor Suites Hotel located on Sukhumvit Road. We went straight to the receptionist and booked a room for tonight and tomorrow. The receptionist gave us a card that we can use as a key to unlock our room. We went to our room and took a quick shower, change our clothes and then went down to the lobby again.      From the lobby, we went out to the street. My father ordered a ride from a local driver. It looked like a becak motor but a lot bigger and the people called it “tuk-tuk”. My father asked the driver to take us to Chatuchak Market and find us a restaurant that served Halal food for Moslem. Then we arrived at a small restaurant which turned out to be owned by Indonesian. The owner was very nice, he gave us a free meal when we were about to left his restaurant. He said that it was for our breakfast, just in case we couldn’t find any Halal food at the hotel. My father thanked him and ask to exchange their phone number. Before we went back to the hotel, my father took me around the Chatuchak Market. I saw so many toys that I have never seen before in Indonesia. My father bought me one of those toys, it was a rubber chicken. It was so funny because when we squeeze it, it will make sound just like a rooster. After that, we went back to the hotel and go to bed.      In the morning, we enjoy free breakfast at the hotel. We had a lot of Halal food to choose from. I took a couple glasses of free milk for myself. After that, my father order an Uber and ask the driver to take us to three archaeological sites in Thailand which were Ayutthaya Historical Park, Ban Non Wat village, and the temple of Prasat Ta Muen Thom. When we arrived at each destination, my father started collecting the data. While my father was working, I walked around the historical site and took a lot of pictures of myself. We finished the job at 5 p.m, and we still have enough time to head back to the hotel, took a quick shower, and drove right away to the airport.	Series of Event
