“PRONOUN: PERSON“

 

Hi, sobat!

Tahukah kamu apa itu pronoun? Pronoun (pronomina: bahasa Indonesia) merupakan kata yang berfungsi untuk menggantikan noun (kata benda) baik berupa orang, tempat, benda, ataupun sesuatu. Kata itu digunakan untuk mengindari pengulangan penyebuatan sebuah kata benda (noun), nama seseorang, tempat atau sesuatu hal. Pronoun berfungsi sebagai kata kanti (rujukan) noun dalam sebuah kalimat; yang berkedudukan sebagai subjek, objek, kepemilikan, dan sebagainya. Kemudian, pronoun dibedakan menjadi beberapa macam yaitu:

Sementara itu, selain yang dicantumkan pada table di atas pronoun juga meliputi kata: who, whom, which, that, whose, dan sebagainya yang digunakan sebagai kata ganti subjek, objek, atau kepemilikan pada sebuah klausa kalimat.

Pada kesempatan kali ini, kita akan membahas “Person”. Yuk simak penjelasannya berikut ini!

 

PERSON

Berikut ini ada beberapa yang perlu diperhatikan terkait penggunaan the person of a pronoun, yaitu kata ganti yang merujuk pada seseorang di antaranya yaitu:

a.      A student, a person, atau one dapat digunakan untuk third-person singular pronouns (kata ganti orang ke-3) berikut: he, she, atau he or she; him, her, atau him or her; dan his, her, atau his or her. Perhatikan contoh berikut ini!

A student must renew his or her library card every year.

A student has to expect to work hard when he goes to college. OR A student has to expect to work hard when she goes to college.

 

b.      Possessive pronoun (kata ganti kepemilikan) untuk one dapat berupa one’s atau his or her, namun bukan ones. Perhatikan contoh berikut ini!

One should brush one’s teeth twice daily. OR One should brush his teeth twice daily.

 

Error Examples

Berikut ini terdapat beberapa kesalahan dalam penggunaan person pada kalimat; serta, pembenarannya!

A person can expect to receive a traffic ticket when we drive too fast.	A person can expect to receive a traffic ticket when he drives too fast.
When one has a toothache, you should go to the dentist.	When one has a toothache, one should go to the dentist.
One should remember to pay your telephone bill on time.	One should remember to pay one’s telephone bill on time.
One should have ones teeth checked regularly.	One should have one’s teeth checked regularly.
