    Dalam bahasa Inggis, terdapat beberapa verb (kata kerja) yang harus diikuti oleh gerund (verb-ing) atau infinitive (to verb-1). Sementara itu, beberpa verb (kata kerja) juga dapat diikuti keduanya, baik gerund maupun infinitive. Yuk, simak selengkapnya daftar verb (kata kerja) yang diikuti oleh gerund (verb-ing) atau infinitive (to verb-1) berikut ini.

     

    A.   List Of Verb Folowed By Gerund

    Berikut ini beberapa daftar verb (kata kerja) yang diikuti oleh gerund (verb-ing) antara lain:

     

    VERB FOLLOWED BY GERUND
    1. admit => He admitted stealing the money. (Dia mengaku mencuri uang)
    2. advise* => She advised waiting until tomorrow. (Dia menyarankan menunggu sampai besok)
    3. anticipate => I anticipate having a good time on vacation. (Saya mengantisipasi bersenang-senang saat liburan)
    4. appreciate => I appreciated hearing from them. (Saya menghargai mendengar dari mereka)
    5. avoid => He avoided answering my question. (Dia menghindari menjawab pertanyaan saya)
    6. can't bear => I can't bear waiting in long lines. (Aku tidak tahan menunggu dalam antrian panjang)
    7. begin* => It began raining. (Hujan mulai turun)
    8. complete => I finally completed writing my term paper. (Saya akhirnya selesai menulis makalah saya)
    9. consider => I will consider going with you. (Saya akan mempertimbangkan untuk pergi dengan Anda)
    10. continue* => He continued speaking. (Dia melanjutkan berbicara)
    11. delay => He delayed leaving for school. (Dia menunda berangkat sekolah)
    12. deny => She denied committing the crime. (Dia menyangkal melakukan kejahatan)
    13, discuss => They discussed opening a new business. (Mereka berdiskusi tentang membuka usaha baru.)
    14, dislike => I dislike driving long distances. (Saya tidak suka mengemudi jarak jauh)
    15. enjoy => We enjoyed visiting them. (Kami senang mengunjungi mereka)
    16. finish => She finished studying about ten. (Dia selesai belajar sekitar sepuluh)
    17. forget => I'll never forget visiting Napoleon's tomb. (Saya tidak akan pernah lupa mengunjungi makam Napoleon)
    18. hate => I hate making silly mistakes. (Saya benci membuat kesalahan konyol)
    19. can't help => I can't help worrying about it. (Saya tidak bisa tidak mengkhawatirkannya)
    20. keep => I keep hoping he will come. (Saya terus berharap dia akan datang)
    21. like* => I like going to movies. (Saya suka pergi ke bioskop)
    22. love* => I love going to operas. (Saya suka pergi ke opera)
    23. mention => She mentioned going to a movie. (Dia menyebutkan pergi ke bioskop)
    24. mind => Would you mind helping me with this? (Maukah Anda membantu saya dengan ini?)
    25. miss => I miss being with my family. (Aku rindu kebersamaan dengan keluargaku)
    26. postpone => Let's postpone leaving until tomorrow. (Ayo kita tunda berangkat sampai besok)
    27. practice => The athlete practiced throwing the ball. (Atlet berlatih melempar bola)
    28. prefer => Ann prefers walking to driving to work. (Ann lebih suka berjalan kaki daripada mengemudi ke tempat kerja)
    29. quit => He quit crying to solve the problem. (Dia berhenti menangis untuk menyelesaikan masalah)
    30. recall => I don't recall meeting him before. (Saya tidak ingat pernah bertemu dengannya sebelumnya)
    31. recollect => I don't recollect meeting him before. (Saya tidak ingat bertemu dengannya sebelumnya)
    32. recommend => She recommended seeing the show. (Dia merekomendasikan melihat pertunjukan)
    33. regret* => I regret telling him my secret. (Saya menyesal menceritakan rahasia saya kepadanya)
    34. remember => I can remember meeting him when I was a child. (Saya ingat bertemu dengannya ketika saya masih kecil)
    35. resent => I resent her intefering in my business. (Saya benci dia ikut campur dalam bisnis saya)
    36. resist => I couldn't resist eating the dessert. (Saya tidak bisa menahan diri untuk makan makanan penutup)
    37. risk => She risks losing all of her money. (Dia berisiko kehilangan semua uangnya)
    38. can't stand* => I can't stand waiting in long lines. (Saya tidak tahan menunggu dalam antrian panjang)
    39. start* => It started raining. (Hujan mulai turun)
    40. stop => She stopped going to classes when she got sick. (Dia berhenti pergi ke kelas ketika dia sakit)
    41. suggest => She suggested going to a movie. (Dia menyarankan pergi ke bioskop)
    42. tolerate => She won't tolerate cheating during an examination. (Dia tidak akan mentolerir kecurangan selama ujian)
    43. cry => I tried changing the light bulb, but the lamp still didn't work. (Saya mencoba mengganti bola lampu, tapi lampunya tetap tidak berfungsi)
    44. understand => I don't understand his leaving school. (Saya tidak mengerti dia meninggalkan sekolah)
    Catatan: verb yang dengan tanda (*) dapat diikuti keduanya yaitu baik infinitve ataupun gerund.

    Berikut ini beberapa daftar verb (kata kerja) yang diikuti oleh infinitive ( to verb-1) antara lain:

     

    A. VERBS FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY AN INFINITIVE
    1. afford => I can't afford to buy it. (Saya tidak mampu membelinya)
    2. agree => They agreed to help us. (Mereka setuju untuk membantu kami)
    3. appear => She appears to be tired. (Dia tampak lelah)
    4. arrange => I'll arrange to meet you at the airport. (Saya akan mengatur untuk bertemu Anda di bandara)
    5. ask => He asked to come with us. (Dia minta ikut dengan kita)
    6. can't bear* => I can't bear to wait in long lines. (Saya tidak tahan menunggu dalam antrian panjang)
    7. beg => He begged to come with us. (Dia memohon untuk ikut dengan kami)
    8. begin* => It began to rain. (Hujan mulai turun)
    9. care => I don't care to see that show. (Saya tidak peduli untuk melihat pertunjukan itu)
    10. claim => She claims to know a famous movie star. (Dia mengaku mengenal seorang bintang film terkenal)
    11. consent => She finally consented to marry him. (Dia akhirnya setuju untuk menikah dengannya)
    12. continue* => He continued to speak. (Dia terus berbicara)
    13. decide => I have decided to leave on Monday. (Saya telah memutuskan untuk pergi pada hari Senin)
    14. demand => I demand to know who is responsible. (Saya ingin tahu siapa yang bertanggung jawab)
    15. deserve => She deserves to win the prize. (Dia berhak memenangkan hadiah)
    16. expect => I expect to enter graduate school in the fall. (Saya berharap untuk masuk sekolah pascasarjana di musim gugur)
    17. fail => She failed to return the book to the library on time. (Dia gagal mengembalikan buku ke perpustakaan tepat waktu)
    18. forget* => I forgot to mail the letter. (Saya lupa mengirim surat)
    19. hate* => I hate to make silly mistakes. (Saya benci membuat kesalahan konyol)
    20. hesitate => Don't hesitate to ask for my help. (Jangan ragu untuk meminta bantuan saya)
    21. hope => Jack hopes to arrive next week. (Jack berharap tiba minggu depan)
    22. learn => He learned to play the piano. (Dia belajar bermain piano)
    23. like* => I like to go to the movies. (Saya suka pergi ke bioskop)
    24. love* => I love to go to operas. (Saya suka pergi ke opera)
    25. manage => She managed to finish her work early. (Dia berhasil menyelesaikan pekerjaannya lebih awal)
    26. mean => I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. (Aku tidak bermaksud melukai perasaanmu)
    27. need => I need to have your opinion. (Saya perlu pendapat Anda)
    28. offer => They offered to help us. (Mereka menawarkan untuk membantu kami)
    29. plan => I am planning to have a party. (Saya berencana mengadakan pesta)
    30. prefer => Ann prefers to walk to work. (Ann lebih suka berjalan kaki ke kantor)
    31. prepare => We prepared to welcome them. (Kami bersiap untuk menyambut mereka)
    32. pretend => He pretends not to understand. (Dia berpura-pura tidak mengerti)
    33. promise => I promise not to be late. (Saya berjanji tidak akan terlambat)

    45. wait  => I will wait to hear from you. (Saya akan menunggu kabar dari Anda)
    46. want => I want to tell you something. (Aku ingin memberitahumu sesuatu)
    47. wish => She wishes to come with us. (Dia ingin ikut dengan kita)
    B. VERBS FOLLOWED BY A (PRO) NOUN + AN INFINITIVE
    48. advise* => She advised me to wait until tomorrow. (Dia menasihati saya untuk menunggu sampai besok)
    49. allow => She allowed me to use her car. (Dia mengizinkan saya menggunakan mobilnya)
    50. ask => I asked John to help us. (Saya meminta John untuk membantu kami)
    51. beg => They begged us to come. (Mereka memohon kami untuk datang)
    52. cause => Her laziness caused her to jail. (Kemalasannya menyebabkan dia masuk penjara)
    53. challenge => She challenged me to race her to the corner. (Dia menantang saya untuk balapan ke sudut)
    54. convince => I couldn't convince him to accept our help. (Saya tidak bisa meyakinkan dia untuk menerima bantuan kami)
