Hi, sobat!

Tahukah kamu apa itu part of speech? Ya, part of speech, secara bahasa diartikan sebagai bagian-bagian (kata) penyusun sebuah kalimat. Part of speech merupakan kata-kata yang menyusun sebuah frasa, klausa, atau kalimat. Dalam bahasa Inggris, part of speech pada dasarnya dibagi menjadi 8 macam yaitu Pronoun (kata ganti), Adjective (kata sifat), Noun (kata benda), Conjunction (kata hubung), Adverb (kata keterangan), Verb (kata kerja), Interjection (kata seru), dan Preposition (kata depan). Kata-kata tersebut disingkat menjadi PANCAVIP.

Setiap part of speech yang disebutkan di atas memiliki fungsi dan kedudukan yang bebeda dalam sebuah frasa, klausa, atau kalimat. Selain itu, dalam beberapa hal sebuah kata dapat memiliki beragam makna dan dapan memiliki fungsi yang berbeda dalam kalimat tergantung pada konteks dan grammatika kalimat. Misalnya, kata “love” dapat berfungsi sebagai noun, verb, atau bahkan adjective. Perhatikan beberapa kalimat berikut ini!

• Sheva loves reading a book. (Verb)
• Edward is my first love. (Noun)
• My litte brother loving a cat is Emma. (Adjective)

PARTS OF SPEECH

Kadangkala sebuah kata dapat diidentifikasi sebagai noun, adjective, adverb, atau verb dengan suffix (akhiran) pada kata tersebut. Berikut ini terdapat beberapa suffix (akhiran) yang menunjukkan apakah kata tersebut noun, adjective, adverb, atau verb.

1. Suffix (akhiran) berikut ini biasanya mengindikasikan noun (kata benda).

-acy	accuracy
-age	image
-ance, -ence	permanence
-hood	childhood
-ar, -or	scholar, doctor
-ism	socialism
-ist	artist
-ment	government
-ness	happiness
-y	beauty
-ty	reality, capacity

2. Suffix (akhiran) berikut ini biasanya mengindikasikan adjective (kata sifat).

Error Examples

Berikut ini terdapat beberapa kesalahan “part of speech” pada kalimat; serta, pembenarannya!
