Ya, descriptive text dalam bahasa Inggris merupakan sebuah teks yang menggambarkan suatu objek secara umum dan rinci. Adapun objek yang dijelaskan dalam descriptive text biasanya berupa orang, benda, tempat, hewan atau tumbuhan, kegiatan, peristiwa, dan sebagainya. Sementara itu, descriptive text berusaha menjelaskan secara jelas ciri-ciri fisik, kualitas, visual, dan struktur yang dimiliki oleh objek tersebut.

Descriptive Text: Pengertian, Fungsi, Struktur, & Unsur Kebahasaan
Definition of Descriptive Text (Pengertian Descriptive Text)
Secara bahasa, kata “descriptive” berasal dari kata verb “to describe” (taken from Oxford Dictionary) yaitu give an account in words of (someone or something), including all the relevant characteristics, qualities, or events yang artinya memberikan penjelasan dengan kata-kata (seseorang atau sesuatu), termasuk semua karakteristik, kualitas, atau peristiwa yang relevan. Singkatnya, kata “to describe” berarti menggambarkan atau melukiskan.
Descriptive text, dalam bahasa Indonesia disebut dengan deskriptif teks, adalah sebuah teks yang menjelaskan atau menggambarkan seseorang, benda, makhluk hidup (hewan atau tumbuhan), tempat, atau peristwa secara detail baik dari segi karakteristik dan kualitasnya. Kemudian, descriptive text menjelaskan seseorang, tempat, benda, makhluk hidup (hewan atau tumbuhan), tempat, atau peristwa dilihat dari segi 1) visual seperti bentuk, ukuran, struktur, dan ciri-ciri fisik, 2) kualitas seperti sifat-sifat atau karakter, dan 3) kuantitas seperti jumlahnya, dan lain-lain.
Oleh karena itu, definisi descriptive teks yaitu sebuah teks yang bertujuan untuk menggambarkan atu melukiskan dari segi visual, kualitas, dan kuantitas dari seseorang, benda, makhluk hidup (hewan atau tumbuhan), tempat, dan peristiwa secara umum dan rinci.
Social Function of Descriptive Text (Fungsi Sosial Descriptive Text)
Sebagaimana yang telah dijelaskan di atas, descriptive text memiliki beberapa fungsi social. Fungsi social descriptive text di antaranya yaitu:
To describe someone, something, place, or event in general (untuk menggambarkan seseorang, benda, tempat, atau peristiwa secara umum).
To inform the characteristics and the quality of something visually (untuk memberikan informasi ciri-ciri dan kualitas sesuatu secara visual)
To tell someone, something, place, or event in detail (untuk menceritakan seseorang, sesuatu, tempat, atau peristiwa secara detail)
Generic Structure of Descriptive Text (Struktur Umum Descriptive Text)
Generic structure descriptive text terdiri dari dua bagian utama yaitu 1) Identification, dan 2) Description. Struktur umum descriptive text antara lain sebagai berikut:
a) Identification
Identification, disebut juga dengan “identifikasi”, merupakan bagian pendahuluan desctiptive text. Definisi identification pada descriptive text merupakan gambaran atau deskripsi umum tentang suatu objek atau topik yang dideskripskan. Objek atau topik yang dideskripsikan tersebut adalah benda, seseorang, tempat, atau peristiwa. Sementara itu, indentification ini biasanya berupa pengertian atau definisi umum objek yang dijelaskan. Bagian ini biasa menjadi paragraf pertama dalam descriptive text.
Selain itu, bagian identification descriptive text ini dapat juga memuat informasi lokasi atau waktu dan istilah-istilah penting berkaitan dengan objek yang dideskripsikan.
b) Description
Description, disebut juga dengan “deskripsi”, merupakan bagian isi atau penjelasan descriptive text. Definisi pada descriptive text merupakan penjelasan secara detail dan umum objek atau topik yang dideskripskan. Bagian description ini beriterntang penjelasan terkait ciri-ciri dari segi fisik atau non-fisik yang dimiliki benda, seseorang, tempat, atau peristiwa yang dijelaskan. Sementara itu, bagian description ini melukiskan dari segi visual, kualitas, dan kuantitas dari seseorang, benda, makhluk hidup (hewan atau tumbuhan), tempat, dan peristiwa yang mana dijelaskan dalam beberapa paragaraf.
Language Feature of Descriptive Text (Unsur Kebahasaan Descriptive Text)
Language Feature of Descriptive Text merupakan unsur-unsur kebahasaan yang ada dalam descriptive text. Unsur-unsur kebahasaan descriptive text antara lain sebagai berikut:
1. Simple Present Tense
Descriptive Text pada umumnya menggunakan simple present tense. Simple present tense merupakan pola waktu yang menunjukkan kejadian yang biasa terjadi di masa kini atau sekarang, atau pekerjaan yang senantiasa dilakukan di masa kini dalam kehidupan sehari-hari (menjadi sebuah kebiasaan). Simple present tense ini ditadai dengan:
- Penggunaan simple verb yaitu verb-1 atau verb-s/es.
- Penggunaan to be yaitu is, am, dan are.
- Penggunaan auxiliary verb yaitu do atau does.
Contoh:
I have a close friend. Her name is Rina. She has a brown long hair. She is one of the smartest students at the class.

2. Noun
Noun, disebut juga sebagai nomina atau kata benda, merupakan kata yang digunakan untuk menunjukkan atau menamai orang, benda, hewan, tempat, dan konsep abstrak, seperti ide, gagasan, dan lain-lain. Contohnya, house, cat, mountain, school, class, teacher, friend, dan sebagainya.

Emily has a new cat. Her cat has a beautiful colour. He likes to play at the ground with her.

3. Adjective
Adjective, disebut juga sebagai adjektiva atau kata sifat, merupakan kata yang berfungsi untuk menerangkan atau mensifati suatu benda, tempat, atau seseorang (noun) atau pronoun (kata ganti), seperti dalam hal fisik, kualitas, kuantitas, dan lain-lain. Pada dasarnya, Adjective (Kata Sifat) dapat dikategorikan menjadi 8 jenis yang dikenal dalam kata “OSAShCOMP”, yaitu Opinion (Pendapat), Size (Ukuran), Age (Masa Atau Umur), Shape (Bentuk), Color (Warna), Origin (Asal Tempat), Material (Bahan), dan Purpose (Tujuan). Contohnya, beautiful, big, small, bright, new, dan sebagainya.

Mrs. Erika is my favourite English teacher. She is so friendly. She always explains the difficult lesson communicatively.

4. Adverb
Adverb, disebut juga sebagai adverbial atau kata keterangan, merupakan bagian part of speech yang berfungsi untuk menerangkan verb (kata kerja), adjective (kata sifat), maupun adverb (kata keterangan) lainnya. Adverb memberikan penjelasan terkait: waktu, tempat, cara, derajat keseringan, dan lain-lain. Contohnya, always, really, often, just, never, ever, slowly, regularly, dan sebagainya.

5. Conjunction
Conjunction, disebut juga sebagai konjungsi atau kata hubung, merupakan kata yang berfungsi untuk menghubungkan dua kata, frasa (phrase), klausa (clause), atau paragraf (paragraph). Kemudian, conjunction juga dapat menghubungkan thoughts (pemikiran), actions (tindakan), and ideas (ide), sebagimana nouns (kata benda), clauses (klausa), and other parts of speech (part of speech lainnya). Contohnya, after, and, because, if, when, but, for, so, dan sebagainya.

Edward is my little brother. He is not only cute but also smart. My father and my mom always teach him how to be useful person in life. So, we spend much time together.

5. Pronoun
Pronoun, disebut juga sebagai pronomina atau kata ganti, merupakan kata yang berfungsi untuk menggantikan noun (kata benda) baik berupa orang, tempat, benda, ataupun sesuatu. Contohnya, he, she, it, his ---, her ---, dan sebagainya.

Jaka is bought a new bike by his father. Its colour is blue. He always rides it to go to school.

The Orangutan
Identification:
The Orangutan is a species of the ape; it has long arms and hands, with very long fingers. It is much larger than the ape, and some have been found about six feet high, when standing erect.
Description:
It is capable of walking nearly erect; but the usual gait on the ground is like a cripple who supports himself on his hands, and draws his body forward.
Its home, like the monkey family, seems to be on the trees. The hair is of a brownish red color, and covers his back, arms, legs, and the outside of his hands and feet.
The face has no hair except whiskers on its side. He inhabits Malacca, Cochin China, and particularly the island of Borneo.

Istiqlal Mosque is the largest mosque in Southeast Asia. This mosque is a pride for the nation of Indonesia, as a manifestation of an expression of gratitude to Allah SWT for the outpouring of His grace, the nation's Muslim -majority Indonesia can successfully fight for independence and the formation of the State of RI. Hence it is called Istiqlal mosque means freedom.
Description:
After the transfer of sovereignty from the Dutch colonial government to the Republic of Indonesia in 1949, the building was an idea Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta by Mr KH. Wahid Hasyim (Minister of Religion in 1950) and Mr. Anwar Tjokroaminoto , hereinafter designated as the Chairman of the Istiqlal Mosque Foundation .
In 1953 the committee was formed for the construction of the Istiqlal Mosque, which is headed by Mr. Anwar Tjokroaminoto . He expressed the idea of the construction of the Istiqlal Mosque to the President DR. Ir. Sukarno and has received rave reviews, even the President will fully support the construction of the Istiqlal Mosque.
In 1954 , DR . Ir . Sukarno by diangat Committee as Head of Technical Development Istiqlal Mosque , and since then he is active in the activities of the Istiqlal Mosque , among others, as Chairman of the Jury to judge the contest mockups Istiqlal.

I have an older sister. Her name is Anisa Rahayu. I call her ‘Kak Nisa’ and she is seven years older than me. Although we are siblings, we have some different characteristics and personalities.

My sister has black wavy hair, but she dyed it brown. She is 160 cm tall and has long legs. Her skin is tanned because she likes to travel. She also has nice facial features. Her face is small, with round eyes and a pointed nose.
People like to see her smile and laugh because she has gummy smile. My sister is pretty but she always denies it. She is also kind to everyone. She likes to buy me food and ask me to the cinema.
Yet sometimes she can annoy my mother. She rarely cleans her room because she is quite busy. She often sleeps a lot on weekend due to her working schedule which is from Monday to Saturday. My sister is a hard-working person who I adore so much. She is the type of older sister who can be relied on.

My Butterfly Bracelet

I have a favorite bracelet that I bought two years ago. I went to a vacation with my parents and they asked me to go to Malioboro. When I saw the bracelet shop, I immediately went in. Since I like butterfly a lot, I chose one that caught my eyes.
Description:
My bracelet has simple design. It is dominated with black and brown color. It has many brown wooden butterflies with black beads among them. The black rope can be pulled and loosened to adjust the wrist size. Sometimes when I wear a bracelet, it makes my hand itch. But this one is different, it is really comfortable to wear. The rope is also easy to be pulled and loosened.
The price of this bracelet is cheap, but I really love it. I wear it every time. I once cried when I took off the bracelet and I forgot where it was. My mom found it the next day and I was very relieved.
